Low Arousal Approaches at
Studio 3
The Low Arousal Approach focuses on reducing stress and preventing escalation by changing how we respond in moments of distress.
It shifts attention away from control and towards understanding, safety and calm.
Developed by Professor Andrew McDonnell, this approach recognises that behaviour often reflects stress, fear or overload.
By lowering demands, using low-intensity responses and creating predictable environments, people are better supported to regulate and recover.
