Hi all,
Not sure if this is of use. It's a booklet I designed to try to help a young girl understand her autism...it has potential to be adapted to inform others as well as children.

Hope it helps!

Forgot to add that if anyone has any feedback on the autism booklet, I'd be very interested in your thoughts
cheers
Nikki
Wow! Thanks for this booklet! I think it will be very helpful to me. Just some feedback - I liked the fact that it is very visual, and also that it involves getting the individual to think about the way he communicates and interacts.
On the other hand, I think I would probably change a few things in the layout. I would reduce the amount of colour used on one page, since I have found that this can be distracting. Also, I would put fewer pictures on the same page, for the same reason. Obviously, this would depend on the individual.
Thanks again for this resource!

I think we should be careful here
The subject is vast and view points are varied. If someone has placed resources here that others may indeed find useful, for their reasons in their situation,
-then we should be grateful that member is, like yourself, willing to get involved.
Please give your view point on the resource with professional respect ...................................
positive or negative.
If you have resources you feel are better we would welcome your advice and input ..............

giveupbehaviourismnow: Thankyou for your feedback regarding the booklet on autism. I think this booklet has been slightly misunderstood and I felt it needed a little more explaining!!
I designed the booklet for a young girl who knew she had a diagnosis but knew absolutly nothing about it. The young girl was 17 and had asked for a book to help her understand. She had a learning disability and worked best with worksheets and colourful work.
The idea of the jigsaw was because the young girl had stated that she felt something was 'missing' in relation to her social skills, she described it has a jigsaw.
The idea of not being able to tell if someone has autism just by looking, relates to physical appearances, hense the pictures of individuals with autism. It's not something that can be seen with the eye....
There are several people who would throw worksheets back in a persons face if they were offered to them. That is why this booklet was taylor made for an individual who not only enjoyed worksheets but was able to learn from them. I mentioned in my very first posting that this booklet had potential to be adapted to help explain autism....I never said it was the only resource nor the only way that resources should be presented....I am very aware that every person is unique and that their needs and abilities need to be considered.
Upon designing this booklet I struggled to find information designed for individuals with autism and a learning disability that was simple and easy to follow. I do feel it is an area that should be looked further into, as I have seen several children who wish to know more about their diagnosis but the information in books and on the net seemed too difficult for them to understand.
If anyone does know of other resources, please do put them up, it would be a great help.

Hi Nikki,
The booklet has been very usefull for a couple of people i help to support. As you stated, a couple of tweaks were needed here and there to suit the individual person but on the whole it was a great help.
Many Thanks,
Carl.
