I have been informed by several acquaintances that a number of people inthe C and R lobby have referred to the charter (www.millfieldscharter.com (http://www.millfieldscharter.com)) as some kind of publicity stunt for Studio3 and Proactr Scip Uk. As a founder member I can understand cynicism but, for the record I would support any trainers in PI who genuinely could sign up to it. The charter is a real document which is intended to raise standards in the industry. Please get people to read it and sign it. The people we work with are often not listened to and need our help. Incidentally, many people have read the charter but, have not signed it. I believe that the standards raised in the Charter are only a useful first start. You only raise standards by setting goals. So trainers out there who have read the charter but, feel they cannot sign ask themselves the question will there ever be a time I can sign in the future?

To summarise THE CHARTER IS REAL ATTEMPT TO CHANGE PRACTICE AND NOT A PUBLICITY STUNT. remember the more people that register the more effect we can have on decision makers.

Thats a shame in many ways.

Especially in light of the deaths. I think that its sad that the intention behind the site can be dismissed by groups who would benefit in the long term by supporting it.

my feelings when reading it was that this does need to be backed, promoted and awareness of its contents increased. Generally thats what PR is good for. Publicity around the harm that PI can do is rare and usually generated by certain groups with a vested interest, parents and families often being the groups percieved as having the best credentials for integrity and independence.

Its nice to know what others think about the charter and get some feedback from you about it but I'm not sure that a studio 3 forum is the best place to defend yourself. With respect, have you placed any information on the milfield site clearly making a distinction between your roles in studio 3 and the charter?

My experience of the field is limited but there used to be a fair bit of tension between rival training groups. Could the presentation of the site be adjusted to highlight the intention clearer and relegate the corporate sponsors? That way it might be easier for people who are closely linked with any particular training organisations to agree with the contents and sign without any possibility of it being interpreted as signing up with the opposition.

It is possible to falsely inflate Internet polls or guestbooks. I don't mean dishonesty from server side or admin side, but if you were inclined to using techniques such as http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=397095

With regard to the comments of anon e mouse re the charter. I should stress that we have made significant progress in the first three months. The charter will eventually be managed by an elected group later this year. I am concerned that my message was construed as negative. IT IS NOT!! The charter is already influencing debate at a political level. So the MESSAGE IS POSITIVE!!!!

I thought it would only go to the board if there was a final decision needed because it could not be resolved through discussion and consensus.
