I have recently changed jobs and the new hospital I now work for do not use Studio 3. At interview I was informed they used 'Maybo Safercare'. I am due to attend the training course in a couple of weeks and have been disillusioned to hear several staff talking of how it is used in 'reality'.
I have had a quick look on their website and see they are BILD accredited, is this worth the paper it is writeen on? Do they follow a low arousal approach in theory but not practice?
Any advice or experience from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

I work in a service that use Studio 3 training and having been trained in other's (that I never really liked) I have to say I prefer Studio 3. A very good friend of mine works for another company who use Maybo and I too have many concerns. He spoke about the training he has attended and his attitude towards restraint has completely changed for the worst! Myself and a friend (also trained in studio 3) were at this friends house and he decided to demostrated some of "His new skills" on me , one of which resulted in me being face first on the floor with my arms pinned! The feelings on being held in this way ranged from Anger, fear and frustration, all I wanted was to get up as fast as I could, as I struggled to get up the hold became tighter and tighter, it was horrible. Now I was aware of what was going on, how would someone we are meant to care for understand this situation? having no skills to say "I'm calm, let me up" My friend was unable to tell me at what point should he let go. When I tried explaining that once someone is on the floor they cant hurt you, his response "but when they get up they can go for you again" So at what point do they let go of someone????
Having not been on Maybo training I can't completely slate it, as the only experience I have is being held in a hold demostrated by someone who had been on a 4 day course and perhaps they have got it wrong but I do know that this hold just felt wrong to me.
Anyone been on this training? any thoughts from someone in the know

Hi - I'm Mick a Studio III Trainer in bolton. Unfortunately BILD accreditation now accredits many models - some models that use high levels of force to control peoples behaviour in secure settings. I suppose as a national body they have many services who have a variety of roles. Unfortunately some of these models that have origins in secure hospital are now being used within ordinery community based learning disability services. In my view this is a very negative development and I welcome comments from other members and trainers about this
