In Ireland, as elsewhere, the pace of change is hotting-up as our growing experience tells us that inclusion and the realisation of good ordinary lives by people with disabilities are never simply resolved through the activities of social care professionals.
Inclusion, we are finding, is essentially a social and cultural issue with the very nature of families and communities at its core. People with disabilities regularly remind us that, for them, loneliness and isolation constitute the greatest disability.
This Conference is designed to give participants time to learn from the experience of those who have walked the road we are travelling and space to reflect upon their own journey.
Three themes dominate the Conference Programme:
· Self Direction and Personalised or Individualised Budgets
· Family Leadership – Putting relationships at the centre of our understanding of a Good Life
· Ordinary and Included Lives for People who’ve acquired very challenging reputations
