THE
STUDIO III GROUP Supporting People Changing Lives Providers of training in non-aversive behaviour management for over ten years Studio III consists of three individual companies, which promote the ideals,
philosophies and benefits of non-aversive behaviour management. They
further provide a fusion of skills drawn from academic researchers,
applied clinicians, psychologists (educational and clinical), speech
and language therapists, doctors, teachers, movement skills trainers
as well as nurses with RMN and RMNH qualifications. Studio III offers
an alternative to traditional methods, some of which are liable to scrutiny
under the European Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and
Fundamental Freedoms, which took effect in the laws of the Since the development of Studio III Training Systems in 1989 over 31,000 staff working in the statutory, private and voluntary sectors have been trained in a non-aversive approach to managing challenging behaviour. The Company’s courses have been developed and clinically tested to give staff the skills they require to meet the particular needs of the service user within a broad base of client populations. Of the various topics covered in the training: working within the law; policy development, understanding the causes of challenging behaviour; the use of the ‘Low-arousal’ approaches including interaction, defusion and distraction strategies; coping with challenging behaviours including debriefing - why it is necessary and how to do it, managing versus changing behaviours, physical avoidance skills and physical intervention strategies, are just a few. III CLINICAL SERVICES LTD This is a specialised service providing clinician’s practical advice and offers support to staff working with people who present with challenges. Previously the remit of the training company, a dedicated team has been formed to build on the specialised experienced gained over the last ten years in both domains of learning disabilities and mental health. The team has been further expanded with experienced clinicians who have extensive knowledge of working with older adults, children and adolescents. This provides clinical services with practical and academic strengths which aides our aim to offer advice and support for staff and professionals at both the individual and systemic level. Currently the team is involved in crisis assessment, developing pro-active and re-active plans for ‘high risk’ individuals, developing long term behavioural support strategies, advising on the deployment of services and providing clinical and service audits. - Studio III – Innovations organises conferences and seminars for people
working in care professions, allowing them to gain a greater insight
into the causes of challenging behaviour. The company has been host
to leading exponents from around the globe providing forums on topics
such as communication, movement differences, legal perspectives, psycho
pharmacology, developing alternatives to control and restraint and preventing
abuse in settings which care for older adults. Demand has been such
that a dedicated team, under the umbrella of Studio
III Innovations Ltd, has been formed to roll out a continuous
programme of events. |
