Wellbeing conference (10-12th September 2015)
Our first International Happiness and Wellbeing Conference was well attended with over 160 delegates from across Europe. Teaching topics included focusing on organisations presented by Michael Norager from the University of Aarhus in Denmark,
Stress management approaches to the management of challenging behaviours was a strong theme. There was a particularly strong presentation from our colleague Bo Hejlskov-Elven from Denmark. David Walker from Studio 3 Clinical Services gave a very thought provoking presentation on self-harm in adolescents with a range of supports that could be put in place. Michael McCreadie from Studio3 Clinical Services got people to focus on the concept of happiness and particularly thinking about a wellbeing framework. Andrew McDonnell focused on the work of Professor Martin Seligman on wellbeing and described methods to adapt this model for supporting people with challenges. Mark Wetherell from the University of Northumbria presented some interesting data on stress and carers. Mark and his team will be developing this work further with both Michael McCreadie and Andrew McDonnell. Studio3 has funded a PhD at the University of Northumbria commencing in November 2015.
